Sometimes, working with the whole family is the most helpful way to support your child’s speech, language and communication (SLC) needs. This is particularly the case regarding language development, as well as early dysfluency / stammering, as parental input can make a profound difference to the child’s SLC development. Family therapy helps parents learn how to modify the way they communicate and play with their children in order to optimise the speaking and language-learning environment.
I will discuss if this approach may be helpful for your child following assessment.
Sometimes, I will also recommend that this approach is adopted within the school / nursery environment. The ways in which this can be implemented also be discussed following the assessment stage.
